====== Climbing in Malaysia ====== ===== General ===== This incomplete wiki refers to Peninsular Malaysia, as I haven't travelled much to East Malaysia. Malaysia has numerous mountain ranges running from north to south, but of interest to climbers, are the limestone [[wp>Mogote|mogotes]], of which several notable ones can be found in relatively populous and accessible cities. ==== Communities ==== * [[https://www.facebook.com/groups/rockclimbinginmalaysia|Facebook Group - Rock Climbing in Malaysia]] ===== Gyms ===== Incomplete list - work in progress; * [[https://www.camp5.com/|Camp5]] - Top Rope/Bouldering - Kuala Lumpur + Klang Valley, Johor Bahru * [[https://www.bumpbouldering.com/|BUMP Bouldering]] - Bouldering - Kuala Lumpur/Petaling Jaya ===== Kuala Lumpur - Batu Caves ===== Batu Caves is a mogote with multiple cliff faces with a large variety of routes. It is completely uncommercialized - access to Nyamuk Wall is from the backlot between 2 houses, at the end of [[https://maps.app.goo.gl/xp39YNESmy8Ytucy7|Lorong Melati]]. I was able to park my van in the homes' parking lot for a short while to explore the wall, but only after a short conversation with the homeowners; if parking for longer, the main road, Jalan TIB 3, has plenty of automotive stores and street parking, with Nyamuk Wall being just a short 5 minute walk in. The short trek up to the wall is relatively precarious, with some relatively steep undergrowth to navigate (that I would not try after wet weather), as well as large boulders on the ground to climb between, before arriving at the base of the wall. Once at the base of the wall, there's plenty of large, flat rocks to leave your belongings on. === Climbing Activities === * Lead Climbing === Information === * [[https://www.thecrag.com/en/climbing/malaysia/batu-caves/area/13951039|Nyamuk Wall on theCrag]] * [[https://maps.app.goo.gl/k1HDaoYHr6TzsG2t8|Nyamuk Wall on Google Maps]] * Equipment: Bring your own * Parking: None * Guides: Bring your own * Insect repellent: Necessary ==== Gua Lepak ==== Gua Lepak is a semi-commercialized climbing site maintained by the community with permission from the property's owners, and guides maintaining a [[https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100093404884518|Facebook page for Gua Lepak climbing]]. === Climbing Activities === * Lead Climbing * Top Rope === Information === * [[https://www.thecrag.com/en/climbing/malaysia/batu-caves/area/13950847|Volleyball Site (Gua Lepak) on theCrag]] * [[https://maps.app.goo.gl/XK15WVi9wRRvgGDi6|Gua Lepak on Google Maps]] * Equipment: * Rent from guide: Rope, quickdraw, helmet * Bring your own: Harness, belay device, shoes, chalk * Parking: Yes - in front of Gua Lepak restaurant * Guides: * [[https://wa.me/60148175946/|Man]] * [[https://wa.me/601115196104/|Leen]] * Insect repellent:
